Toronto Juno Award-nominated group Sultan of Strings has partnered with over a dozen Indigenous artists from across Canada to create an album that responds to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action. The new album, Walking Through Fire, was released in fall 2023.
Band member and project leader Chris McKhool says that in creating this work, they focused mainly on two calls to action: the call for Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists to work together to find a path forward; and “to build student capacity for inter-cultural understanding and mutual respect,” offering students a chance to meet and learn from the Indigenous artists performing.
Sultans of String and Indigenous artists will be performing in the GTA between Feb. 1 and April 16.
