A new partnership between the Centre Wellington Food Bank and the Upper Grand Family Health Team is offering residents more accessibility at a “food hub” in Fergus.
The pantry in the Trailside Medical Centre, just off Beatty Line, has seen expanded usage since the combination of the two groups, say organizers. The hub has been operating for about a year-and-a-half, but this grouping of the food bank and health team to provide the service began in late December.
Executive Director of the food bank Curt McQueen says these partnerships are in the interest of bettering the community, and the health team’s Executive Director Hilary Blackett echoed those sentiments.
Blackett says the hub is helping to create a social-physical health connection, while McQueen added there could be more of these hubs locally in future years.
CICW spoke with both McQueen and Blackett regarding the hub.
