The provincial government’s announced yesterday that $9.9 million will be given to 260 non-profit organizations around Alberta through the Community Initiatives Program.
Some of the recipients include disability services, woman’s rights groups, music festivals, sports tournaments, powwows, and a lot more.
Indigenous recipients include Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, Poundmaker’s Lodge, and Powwow Times. Alexis Nakota received $75,000 for the 2023 Nakota Strong Music Festival, and Poundmaker’s Lodge and Powwow Times received $25,000 and $40,717 respectively for their powwows last year.
Other non-profits to receive funding is the Famous 5 Foundation with $75,000, and the Alberta Council of Disability Services with $37,500.
