St. Lawrence College (SLC) announced earlier this month that they will be partnering with SpacesShared, a platform that pairs students looking for accommodations with older adults in the community who have extra space in their homes. With affordable housing being a significant challenge in Kingston, this partnership aims to create new housing options for SLC students.
For older adults, home-sharing is a way to use a spare bedroom for some extra income, company, and assistance around the home.
As stated in the release from SLC, home sharing also encourages community, helps people age at home, and alleviates social isolation for both parties.
To learn more about SpacesShared, there will be an information session on Feb. 1 at St. Lawrence College. Registration can be completed on eventbrite.
