In a press conference Tuesday morning, Commissioner Joanne Castonguay described the state of homecare in Quebec as “worrying”.
This statement coincided with the release of Quebec’s Health and Wellness Commission’s final volume of its four-part series, ‘Aging Well at Home’, this week.
Paul Brunet, head of the Conseil pour la protection des malades, a patient advocacy group in Montreal, told CJLO he wants to see real action. “Do the job. Render the appropriate services to our population,” he said.
Brunet points to the overcrowding in Quebec’s ERs as a symptom of inadequate homecare in the province. “Twenty five to fifty per cent of people waiting in the ER ward are our elders, who could have been seen and should be treated at home,” he said.
