The Town of Cobourg is now using Alertable as a way to communicate with residents during significant events or service disruptions.
Alertable, a public notification system, will enable the town to increase its ability to reach residents directly based on their preferred means of communication as the program has a free app that can be downloaded onto a mobile phone, tablet, or smart speaker. Residents can also sign up to receive notifications via e-mail or text message.
Residents can register for emergency notifications based on their phone’s geographic location. In addition to their home address, Alertable will work while traveling if the app is available in that region.
Cobourg’s emergency planner Adam Bennett is hosting in-person information sessions this month on Mondays from 8-11:30 a.m. at the Cobourg Community Centre and 10 a.m. until noon Tuesdays at the Cobourg Public Library.
CFWN spoke with Bennett about Alertable.
