On Sunday CKRZ 100.3FM celebrated a significant milestone, reaching the age of 34 years.
The station operates as the non profit organization Southern Onkwehon:we Nishinabec Indigenous Communications Society (SONICS) and is an important part of life on Six Nations.
The station started with a five watt antenna out of the back of a car and has grown to be a CRTC licensed station now operating with 5000 watts of power, covering a large portion of south/southwestern Ontario.
As part of the celebrations, the station held a special Monster Bingo on Sunday the 21st with over $25,000.00 in prizes along with special on air programming and giveaways through the week, leading up to the Sunday event.
Carolyn King, Board of Directors Chair,stopped in to share some thoughts about the challenges and successes over the years. She says the main thing is, “it carries our name and our programming”.
