Sackville resident Sabine Dietz says she almost didn’t look at her assessment notice this year, but then opened the envelope from Service New Brunswick out of curiosity. She was shocked to see the assessment on her home, an older house well outside of town, go up by 28%.
Hundreds of Sackville properties are seeing 25% to 30% increases in their assessments for 2024, amounts which will be reflected in tax bills.
CHMA checks in with realtor Jamie Smith about the source of the spikes — the province’s hot pandemic housing market — and also with some homeowners who are facing the shock.
