The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) Athletics and Campus Recreation department has announced this year’s inductees to the “Cascades Hall of Fame.” Former UFV basketball player Lauren Alonzo and golf player Aaron Pauls will receive the honour for 2024 on Jan. 20.
Both athletes boast impressive records of success from their time at UFV: Alonzo helped her team win four consecutive gold medals in the British Columbia Colleges’ Athletic Association (now PACWEST) championships between 2000 and 2004; Pauls helped his team win three PACWEST gold medals between 2009 and 2015; among many, many other achievements.
CIVL Radio spoke with Pauls to discuss memories from his time as a Cascades athlete, why he nearly quit, to whom he owes his success, and what it feels like to join the hall of fame.
