After six years of delay, Indigenous artist Waawaate Fobister is going on tour with their show Omaagomaan.
Fobister is an two-spirit artist from the Grassy Narrows Reservation and multiple Dora Award winner.
In Grassy Narrows, the tap water is not safe to drink due to water contamination in the 1960s from industrial plants. This has lead to the reserves’ water source to have large doses of mercury.
Omaagomaan seeks to “illustrate the fierce land defenders of Grassy Narrows in the face of ongoing logging and the lasting effects of mercury poisoning.”
Fobister says that while on staging performing they feel like they can connect to their ancestors and family members they lost.
