A new grant program for heritage properties is coming soon to Centre Wellington, with March as a possible start date for a call for applications.
The Community Heritage Grant Program is designed to encourage listed properties to get registered as a heritage property.
It would be funded up to 50 per cent of a project, or a maximum of $10,000, helping heritage property owners out with one project a year, says Mariana Iglesias, Centre Wellington Manager of Planning Services.
Maintenance to these properties, staff say in a report, may include restoring, preserving, and rehabilitating heritage properties.
“Generally speaking, historic buildings and structures require maintenance and upkeep which can often be more costly than similar work on contemporary structures,” the report states.
CICW heard more from Iglesias during a Monday Centre Wellington council session.
