A rally was held outside city hall in Nelson on Tuesday to support Drug User Liberation Front (DULF) co-founders Eris Nix and Jeremy Kalicum’s court appearance following their arrest in Vancouver.
DULF originally started in Vancouver in the early 2000s as a group that advocated for a safe supply of illegal drugs. The organization went on to operate a compassion club that provided tested methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine to users. They were eventually shut down resulting in Nix and Kalicum being arrested in late October 2023.
Tuesday marked the first court date for Nix and Kalicum. Dylan Griffith of the Kootenay Insurrection organized the rally to coincide with the court date.
Roughly 20 people attended the rally. Many were seen holding signs promoting safe supply and thanking DULF for their actions. Rallies are taking place in other parts of Canada and the UK.
