The Allan Marshall Pool at the Trent Athletics Centre reopened after over two years of reconstruction on Jan. 8.
It was originally closed in November 2021 when they observed “several issues” with the pool’s infrastructure, says Leslie Spooner, assistant director of Customer Engagement and Operations for Trent Athletics.
Trent Athletics hired an external firm to conduct a feasibility study on the pool to identify “deficiencies” and to recommend how to fix them. The pool was built in the 1970s and was relatively unchanged since.
In addition to updating the infrastructure of the pool, they also added an accessibility ramp, and installed a headwall with starting blocks to make the pool better for competitive swimming.
They are starting their “phased return” to aquatic programming, and hope to reintroduce all of the regular student and community groups to the pool in the next few months.
