With Black history month being just a few weeks away, it’s a good time to further our understanding of black history and experiences.
The University of Windsor is currently offering their Fundamentals of Race and Anti-Black Racism course. It is an introductory course to help the community learn better vocabulary, gain a deeper understanding of how racism came to be, and how it is experienced within institutions.
On January 12, CJAM spoke with Kaitlyn Ellsworth, the Black Student Support Coordinator at the University of Windsor, and an instructor in the continuing education program for this course.
She elaborated on what the course is, and the importance of the course to the Windsor community. This includes understanding that Canada also had a part to play in the history of slavery.
