Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) say there are concerns that funding through Jordan’s Principle Settlement agreement is an inadequate amount to support the community.
In October 2023, the federal government approved the settlement agreement worth $23 billion, “to compensate First Nations children and families who were harmed by discriminatory underfunding of the First Nations Child and Family Services program and those impacted by the federal government’s narrow definition of Jordan’s Principle,” states a news release on Indigenous Services Canada website.
SNEC CEO Nathan Wright spoke Jan. 8 on Six Nations’ concerns about the total funding and how it will be distributed to different First Nations and individuals.
“We’re concerned we didn’t get enough money to be able to provide the proper supports.”
