At their first meeting of the year, Loyalist Township council adopted a motion from Lanark County to recognize the issues of violence in rural communities.
On December 14th, 2022, Lanark County council passed a motion to recognize these issues as a serious concern to the health and wellness of local families. Based on the statistics of 4815 crisis calls and service provision to 527 women and children in Lanark, the county declared an epidemic of intimate partner violence and violence against women.
Lanark County council circulated its resolution to all municipalities in Ontario; local MPs and MPPs; the Association of Municipalities of Ontario; the Ministry of the Attorney General; the Ministry of Women’s Social and Economic Opportunity,;and the Federal Ministry of Women and Gender Equality.
