The Six Nations Consultation and Accommodation Process (CAP) team have started informing the community on an agreement to be consulted and financially accommodated between Six Nations Elected Council and real estate developer Broccolini and its Old Mill Rd. project.
The project is set to see a 1 million square ft. Amazon Distribution Centre constructed in the Township of Blair just outside Cambridge.
Given that the location of the project sits within the Haldimand Tract, Six Nations requested to be consulted and financially accommodated for the structure being constructed on the traditional treaty territory. An agreement was then struck between the construction company and SNEC.
Six Nations CAP team says Broccolini have agreed to a 10:1 tree replacement ratio, long term protection of the Blair swamp wetland, and a payment of $250,000 to Six Nations.
Another in-person community engagement session on the project will be held on Jan. 24, 2024. at 5 p.m. at the Gathering Place by the Grand.
