OYA Black Arts Coalition and media group is celebrating five years of helping black creatives get into the entertainment industry this month.
OYA is a Toronto based organization that provides multiple programs to black creatives. These programs help people develop skills, provide mentorships and help people find work in the creative industry.
On Dec. 8 they celebrated their fifth year. OYA was founded by three women of colour Alison Duke, Canadian writer-producer-director, Ngardy Conteh, an award-winning filmmaker, and Dr. Notisha Massaquoi, Assistant Professor with the Department of Health and Society at the University of Toronto.
While they are celebrating their fifth year the emerging filmmakers program predates the organization by one year. It currently has 80 alumni.
