December 18th marks the date for International Migrants Day. This day can have a unique meaning for Canadians, due to Canada’s reputation for being a melting pot of people and cultures. However, it can at times be hard to understand the journey that some newer Canadians have gone through to settle in Canada.
From the University of Windsor’s CJAM 99.1 FM station, Raida Farzat, a work-study student, describes her experience of immigrating from Syria to Canada as a child. She discusses her reasoning for moving, her first impressions of the country, her favourite memories and more. Through the hardships and laughter, she looks to the future with optimism.
