A “new era” in Wellington County began Wednesday when the first Automated Speed Enforcement Camera in the county went live on Belsyde Avenue East in Fergus.
County councillors and staff gathered between Tower Street and McTavish Street for the official unveiling of signage as the camera began to operate.
Aberfoyle, Palmerston and Mount Forest all also had cameras go live Wednesday, and Drayton, Rockwood and Hillsburgh will all be up and running later this month.
The one-year pilot program could see more cameras added throughout, according to Wellington County Engineer Don Kudo.
CICW spoke with Kudo, as well as Centre Wellington Mayor Shawn Watters, and county roads committee head Gregg Davidson at the unveiling ceremony.
