As the soccer stadium at the Memorial Centre proposed by Victory Grounds Ventures comes before council at their next meeting, community members have been expressing concerns regarding the potential impact on the community and local events.
The Memorial Centre Farmers Market, which uses barns on the proposed site during the winter, has been a prominent voice in advocating to halt the project.
Market Manager Emma Barken stated in an interview with CFRC, ”At this point, we just want to pause. We want to be able to talk.”
A petition opposing the project now has over 5,000 signatures.
Council will be deciding between three options at their meeting tonight; moving forward with Victory Grounds Ventures, looking at alternative sites for the stadium, or dropping the project. Those who are skeptical of the proposal are hoping for a fourth option to be added which would postpone this decision.
