Prince George RCMP issued a safety reminder as traffic accidents increased in the city. Two in particular occurred within 24 hours of one another, involving pedestrians. One accident happened Wednesday, January 8, around 4:30 pm on a crosswalk at Second Avenue and Victoria Street, while the other incident transpired the next morning, Thursday, January 9, just before 8:00 am when a pedestrian was struck crossing Fifteenth Avenue near Patricia Boulevard.
Media Relations Officer Cpl. Jennifer Cooper said it’s a surprise to see these incidents occur within such a small time frame, but that accidents are more common at this time of year. She cites low light and slippery conditions as likely factors driving up these incidents. Cooper reminds commuters to turn their vehicles’ lights on and be aware of road surface conditions, for pedestrians to wear reflective gear and make eye contact with drivers when crossing, and for everyone to pocket their phones & pay attention to their surroundings
