At the end of December, Martin Dubé of Fort-Coulonge was named the Director of Hockey Operations for the Gatineau Flames Junior AAA team.
Dubé has a lengthy career both playing and coaching junior hockey at a high level and has a bachelor’s degree in physical education. Over the past 15 years, he made a name for himself running power skating clinics for high-level players after getting his start at the Centre de Loisir des Draveurs. He said that the Flames management had reached out about a month prior to the move being made official.
Dubé explained that the Flames squad acts as a kind of launchpad towards major junior leagues like the OHL or QMHJL, and said he hoped to forge a strong relationship with the Gatineau Olympiques organization, who drafted his son Maxim last summer. As Director of Hockey Operations, he will be responsible for supporting both the management and coaching staff in their duties, focusing on things like scouting and player development.
