Cape Breton-Canso MP Mike Kelloway hasn’t decided yet who he’ll support as the next Liberal leader since Justin Trudeau stepped down as Prime Minister earlier this week. He says it depends on who has the best interests of his riding in mind.
Trudeau says the party’s new leader must also be equipped to deal with “right wing” politicians such as Conservative leader Pierre Pollievre and U.S. president-elect Donald Trump. Kelloway says Trudeau has been kind to Cape Breton-Canso over the past year, approving more than a half billion dollars in local investments, but it’s time for change.
He says he supported Trudeau over the past several months while there was a growing chorus urging him to step down as PM, but he reconsidered in mid-December when Chrystia Freeland resigned as Finance Minister and Deputy PM.
CKOA Radio spoke to Kelloway about his support for the next Liberal leader.
