A proposal made by Victory Grounds Ventures (VGV) to build a multi-use sports stadium at the Memorial Centre will be considered by council at their next meeting.
According to the report to council, the multi-purpose stadium would allow Kingston to host a Canadian Premier League (CPL) soccer team.
Managing Partner Paul Barbeau reassured community members in an interview with CFRC that 80-85% of the new facility will be for community use, while also supporting professional soccer and being able to host a variety of other sports and community events.
While a recent poll on Mayor Bryan Paterson’s Instagram showed 87% support for the proposal, concerns have been raised by community members about increased traffic, noise, and the removal of agricultural barns at the Memorial Centre.
Council will decide on January 14 whether to proceed with VGV’s proposal, consider an alternate site, or reject it altogether.
