For the first time, Prince Edward County’s New Year’s Levee was an event for the entire family. Kids enjoyed cookie decorating, a book and read corner, treats to eat, a fire truck to explore and free skating in the Picton arena. The Mayor, Steve Ferguson, many councillors, municipal staff and several dignitaries from the surrounding region were present to share New Year’s greetings and to chat with residents.
Traditionally, the levee is geared to adults where the mayor reviews events from the previous year and talks about future plans. Mayor Ferguson highlighted shovels in the ground for the new hospital, Leeward House, the County’s first transitional home for the homeless, building of the new retirement home and construction of the water/ wastewater plant. Ferguson was optimistic for 2025 and hopeful that government officials see the need for refurbishment of County Road 49, listed as one of the worst roads in Ontario and Canada.
