On January 2nd, a Nova Scotian donkey died as a result of fireworks being set off near his paddock. Three years ago, the same thing happened to a horse in the province.
Hugh Chapman is one of the founding members of Fireworks Hurt, a group that is working to get consumer fireworks banned so that animals are safer.
Chapman says the group is made up of different kinds of animal owners. From cats and dogs to wild animals, people want to not worry about their animals getting scared or injured.
Fireworks Hurt has their own facebook page, as well as a website that people can visit. They encourage people to write to their local MLAs or sign a petition for consumer fireworks to be banned.
