The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment of Prince Edward County has recently appointed Detective Aaron Miller to the position of Abuse Issues Investigator, a newly created role in some seventy detachments across Ontario. The investigator focuses on intimate partner violence, elder abuse, sexual abuse, human trafficking and related abuse.
Domestic violence and mental health issues top the list of challenges for the county OPP and with strong community ties, they collaborate with local organizations such as Community Care for Seniors, Alternatives for Women, the High Risk Action Review Team and IMPACT, the Integrated Mobile Police and Co-response Team. These mental health professionals work side by side with police services and hospitals in situations where there is a mental health or addiction crisis.
Miller is in his ninth year with the OPP and previously worked as Community Safety Officer so is well connected to the supporting partnerships.
