The House of Assembly will reopen on January 6th on an extraordinary basis to discuss the proposed new Memorandum of Understanding between Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro and Hydro-Québec. Proceedings will be broadcast live via the House of Assembly television channel and streamed via the House of Assembly website and social media channels (Facebook, X and YouTube). Meanwhile, the leader of the opposition, Tony Wakeham has questions leading up to the reopening of the House, including “why the rush?”
“The Churchill Falls MOU is a 51-year agreement with Hydro-Quebe and we have learned from our history with Quebec that long-term deals are nearly impossible to modify if circumstances change, resulting in a less beneficial deal than promised,” he tells Bay FM. In this interview, he warns there are discrepancies between WHAT AND WHAT? He calls on the Public Utilities Board to review the MOU.
