Cape Breton singer-songwriter Heather Rankin has been appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada. The announcement was made on Wednesday.
Rankin is being recognized as a member of the award-winning Rankin Family band. The 57 year old and her siblings have collected a number of awards since the band formed in the 80s. The Rankin Family’s music consisting of a blend of Celtic, folk and country influences has garnered six Juno Awards and three Canadian Country Music Awards.
The group disbanded 1999 so that the siblings could pursue solo careers. Heather Rankin released solo albums in 2016 and 2017 and has also appeared in some Canadian TV shows, including the popular CBC series Mr. D.
She is one of 88 among the new Order of Canada appointees this year. CKOA Radio spoke to Rankin abut receiving the Order.
