The Notre-Dame-de-Grâce community council is promoting eco-friendly habits this holiday season.
During the holiday season the average household produces up to 25% more waste, according to the Suzuki Foundation. Increases in travel and power also add up to more emissions over the holidays. And, according to statistics from the Suzuki Foundation, one out of every five Christmas gifts end up in a landfill.
The NDG Climate Cafe is monthly session run through the community council for residents around the borough to talk about climate change and adaptation in their daily lives. The most recent theme was a workshop on sustainable holidays. They discussed many strategies including less consumerist gift giving.
In addition to the discussion and workshop at the recent climate cafe the group is promoting their campaign online and through their newsletters and advertising.
