As part of ongoing initiatives to beautify the city and encourage public art, the city will be embarking on a three-year pilot project to support mural creation from 2025-2027.
The report by Jennifer Campbell, the city’s Commissioner of Community Services, presented to the Arts, Recreation and Community Policies Committee at their last meeting, detailed the growing interest in public art, providing an overview of the work done so far to create incentives for artists.
The pilot project will bring this work to the next level, with $150,000 set aside for mural services and support. These funds will provide paid opportunities for local artists and support for the purchase of paint and supplies and the various installation costs.
With unanimous approval from the committee, residents may see a more colourful Kingston starting next year.
