Last week, the Wolfe Islander IV was taken out of service after sustaining damage, stranding travelers for over 12 hours before the Wolfe Islander III was brought back into action.
The incident reignited long-standing concerns about the Island’s single ferry service, which operates on an 80-minute round-trip schedule, and reportedly experiences frequent delays and disruptions.
Islanders and municipal officials have voiced frustrations over the impacts on emergency services, daily travel, tourism, and even large-scale development of the Island.
Throughout the surge of discussion in the last week, a new advocacy group, ‘Better Service for Wolfe Islanders’, was formed.
When asked for comment by CFRC, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) stated they are investigating the recent incident, but has not yet offered a timeline for the Wolfe Islander IV’s return or addressed the larger concerns raised.
