Mental health care access continues to be a significant need for youth. According to a report released by the Canadian Mental Health Association, youth in Manitoba are not receiving appropriate mental health, addiction, and substance use health care, particularly in rural and remote areas.
Huddle, an initiative centred on integrated youth services (IYS), is in discussions with funders and community partners about expanding its services outside Winnipeg and Brandon. Levi Labelle, Huddle’s Youth Services Manager, says it’s their priority to ensure youth receive the care they need.
While no specific timeline has been established, the province has indicated its commitment to integrated youth services. This was highlighted in the 2024 budget, which included a $1.1 million funding increase to strengthen and expand IYS availability, particularly in underserved areas.
