The Shipyards Christmas Market, located in the Lower Lonsdale area of North Vancouver, has been experiencing a surge of popularity in its very first year.
Unlike many holiday activities and events throughout Vancouver, the Shipyards Christmas Market has no fee requirement for entry. This is something that is extremely important to the market’s founding organizer, John van Rij, and part of the reason he decided to start this project.
In this interview with John van Rij, he states the goals of the Shipyards Christmas Market, the challenges that have been faced in its first year, and his hopes that the early success of the market inspires the creation of more holiday markets throughout the Lower Mainland.
