Dozens of striking Canadian Union of Postal Workers gathered for a rally outside the post office in Sydney, Nova Scotia today.
As the strike enters its fourth week, Vice President of Breton Local 117 Cecilia O’Neil says the union appreciates the public’s support.
Federal mediation was put on hold last week because Canada Post and the union representing 55, 000 striking postal workers across the country were too far apart at the bargaining table.
But this week, Canada Post says it’s reviewing new counter proposals from the union.
Details haven’t been released, but O’Neil says the postal workers want fairness when it comes to wages and benefits.
Meanwhile, Purolator and UPS are pausing some shipments as they work through floods of deliveries resulting from the strike.
CKOA Radio’s Bill MacCuish spoke to O’Neil about the rally and strike.
