The Legion Hall in Russell, a village east of Ottawa, has reopened after being closed for almost two years.
Long-Twiname-Henderson Legion Hall, named after men from Russell who were killed in the First World War, has been closed since May, 2022 after a fire in the members’ lounge downstairs caused damage both in the lounge and upstairs in the main hall.
The Legion was given special permission by the Township of Russell and its Fire Department to open for a veterans’ dinner and for Remembrance Day. Now the upstairs hall has its occupancy permit. The members’ lounge downstairs is expected to open in January.
