The City of Kitchener has now been certified Bird Friendly, by Nature Canada. This certification was a lengthy process in which the Bird Friendly Kitchener Committee has been hard at work getting approved. This means the city of Kitchener is taking steps to create a safer environment for birds in the community. This certification adds the city of Kitchener to a list of other certified cities such as Guelph and London.
Jennifer Clary-Lemon the Co-Chair for the Bird Friendly City Initiative for the City of Kitchener says being a bird friendly city means Kitchener is actively taking the steps to protect the bird population. Residents can now vote for Kitchener’s official bird.
