The daycare on Concordia’s downtown campus for student parents has been denied extra funding by one vote after a grad students association referendum last week.
The Concordia Student Union, representing undergraduate students, subsidizes the daycare, covering the rent and helping with operational costs. But the daycare director, Angela Meo thought it would be a good idea to try to get some funding from another student group, the Graduate Student Association (GSA).
As a result, the GSA included a question in their election last week, asking members if they would be willing to pay a small fee of $2.50 per semester to provide the daycare with more funding.
Voting took place last week, CJLO obtained the election results and learned that only 344 students voted. For the daycare question there were 13 abstention, 165 people were for the small fee to fund the daycare, and 166 people were against it.
CJLO spoke with the daycare director and a parent who uses the daycare in the GSA who forgot to cast his vote.
