A $38 million investment from the federal government will bring high-speed Internet access to 14 rural communities. Many of the homes belong to Indigenous families.
For Edward Albert of Norway House Cree Nation Broadband Inc., one of the organizations the government has partnered with, this could help level the playing field and open the door for new businesses or investments that might have only gone to larger urban centres like Winnipeg or Brandon. David Lee Roy Muswaggon of Pimicikamak Communications Corp. is excited about the opportunities high-speed Internet brings to his and other communities and the opportunities for his business to compete with Winnipeg markets.
The announcement was made in Winnipeg by the Honourable Dan Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs, Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada and Minister responsible for the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency.
