November is Lung Health & Cancer Awareness Month and NB Lung is taking steps on the issue of radon. Radon exposure is the second leading cause of lung cancer for Canadians, with 3200 deaths per year.
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is both odourless and tasteless. New Brunswick has the highest levels of any province in Canada due to it’s geological makeup.
NB Lung President and CEO Melanie Langille says organizations like hers have been increasing awareness about the risks of radon over the last 10 to 15 years. Her organization will be drawing for two $1000 grants from those who purchase testing kits through NB Lung by the end of November.
