Get Grounded is a new program, offered by the Recreational Outreach Centre (ROC) of Prince Edward County, to help youth transition into high school. The program is aimed at rural students who may be coming from small primary schools or homeschooling programs and Get Grounded is designed to help minimize the stress of navigating the many changes when entering high school.
The ROC’s Acting Executive Director, Shannon Collins, presented a report to council this week outlining the programs offered but highlighted the increased need for their services over the past year. Referrals to the centre increased by 59% and the need for mental health assistance rose by 69%.
Basic needs, meals, educational support and more are available at the ROC for youth 12-18.
