With the unanimous go-ahead given by council, the city will be launching a comprehensive car-sharing pilot program next year.
Car-sharing is a car rental service that allows people to use vehicles for short periods of time. Some of the benefits, according to Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, include tackling traffic congestion, providing accessible travel options, and reducing pollution from vehicle use.
Kingston is teaming up with Communauto, the company already having 8 cars available for rental in Kingston, and over 215 users. This program would see the number of vehicles more than double, allowing for up to 20 vehicles.
