The Township of Russell recently released its draft budget for 2025. The draft included a 10.6% tax increase, and a media release from the township brought forward the concept of user fees for fire department services and library use. CJRO asked Mayor Mike Tarnowski to clarify the increase and user fees. Tarnowski was adamant that residents would not need to pay for fire services directly, but said the township is exploring the idea of having insurers cover those costs. He also expressed unreserved support for the library, and brought up sports facilities which are partially paid by user fees, as well as daycares, which are currently 100% paid by users.
