A little rain will not stop around 50 pickleball players from coming out and celebrating the opening of new pickleball courts.
The eight new courts at the Beban Park Pickleball Courts are officially open on Thursday, October 31.
The $518,000 project comes after the Nanaimo city council voted in December 2023 to create eight new pickleball courts at Beban Park to replace the six courts at Beaufort Park hearing concerns from nearby residents about the noise.
The former Beaufort pickleball courts will be turned into youth courts for mixed recreational opportunities including basketball and hockey in the coming months.
CHLY attended the ribbon-cutting event and spoke with two pickleball players excited to try out the new courts.
