Rush-hour traffic congestion has been top of mind amongst Halifax residents as of late, as the opening of a new roundabout in the downtown Cogswell District construction area caused delays for rush-hour commuters earlier this week.
The roundabout, which opened on Monday, has drivers entering and exiting through Barrington Street and Upper Water Street. Two temporary Halifax Transit stops on Barrington Street have since closed to accommodate traffic flow into the new route.
Halifax resident Martha Swan says traffic delays in the area resulted in her arriving 45 minutes late to work on Tuesday — as her journey across the bridge into Dartmouth from Downtown Halifax took about an hour and a half.
In addition to hearing Swan’s first-hand experience, CKDU learned more about the next steps in the four-year project, dubbed one of the biggest city-building efforts in the history of Halifax, through a conversation with Cogswell District project manager Elora Wilkinson.
