Jacob Landriault was given a Citizen Recognition Award from Russell Township Council for his quick thinking and heroic actions on October 21.
The 13-year-old from the Village of Russell, just east of Ottawa, was playing video games on September 29, when he and his mother heard a man was searching for his missing 8-year-old son. The non-verbal boy, who has autism and a hearing impairment, had wandered off.
Jacob got on his bike and located the child over a kilometre away. Jacob and his mother told CJRO how he stayed with the boy preventing him from entering the busy street, until the boy’s father and grandfather arrived.
The Township Council media release said “Jacob demonstrated incredible bravery and compassion in a difficult situation.” Jacob told CJRO — “Do nice things and nice things will come back to you”.
