The city hosted the very first Welcome to Kingston Day on Sunday for new residents.
The day started with a packed Citizenship Ceremony at the Kingston Frontenac Public Library downtown. Then, attendees were invited to Springer Market Square and City Hall for the New to Kingston Fair, celebrating new residents and offering them resources to settle in.
“Each year, people from all over Canada and around the world choose Kingston as their new home,” said Vanessa Mensah, Manager of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Office at the City of Kingston. “Being new in any space can be overwhelming, so we’re excited to showcase the services and organizations who give new Kingstonians the support they need to settle into their new community.”
The initiative had been in the works for almost a year. The city now hopes to make this an annual event, welcoming new residents from near and far.
