A motion to rescind a council decision regarding the Bissell Park multi-use pad, a proposed year-round recreation space, failed to move forward after a lengthy debate at council on the motion’s procedural validity.
At a meeting earlier this month, council decided to move forward with a refrigerated ice surface for the pad and additional buildings for ice maintenance, going against staff’s recommendation of also including a roof for the structure. The concrete pad has a range of all season uses including hockey, basketball, yoga, dog training and others.
Councillor Bronwynne Wilton sought to have the original motion rescinded and to waive the requirement for giving a Notice of Motion to Reconsider, with hopes of moving to an alternate design option that would included a non-refrigerated ice surface.
