Some artists in Halifax and across Atlantic Canada are expressing concern over what they call a lack of transparency after changes were made at the East Coast Music Association.
A petition created by artist manager Sheri Jones has gained more than 600 signatures since launching in October. Jones, who manages several Halifax-based artists like Joel Plaskett and Maggie Andrew, along with Grammy award-winning songwriter Gordie Sampson, has been involved in the music business for more than 30 years.
She says the non-profit recently made sweeping changes, including the dismissal of longstanding contractors with “deep institutional knowledge” and revisions to the annual award show, without consulting the local music community.
CKDU spoke with Jones and the ECMA’s new CEO Blanche Israel to learn more about the changes.
